Mounting Concerns Lead to Air King America’s Range Hoods Recall

On March 21, 2019, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) announced the recall of Valencia wall-mounted range hoods (VAL and ESVAL series hoods) manufactured by Air King America, LLC. The Air King Valencia range hoods pose an injury risk to consumers, as the wall-mounting anchors included with the range hoods do not adequately secure the hood to the wall. Air King America has already received at least one report of a Valencia Range Hood detaching from the wall resulting in a serious risk of injury.

The recall impacts about 5,000 wall-mounted range hoods sold on popular online distributors such as HomeDepot.com, Lowes.com, Build.com, Amazon.com, as well as independent electrical supply distributors nationwide. The affected products range from 30 to 36 inches in width and are sold in stainless steel, white, and black finishes. Owners of wall-mounted range hoods should immediately stop use and inspect their range hoods according to the instructions provided by Air King America. The Air King name will be found on the motor housing behind the hood’s removable grease filters.
