Burg Simpson Files Lawsuit on Behalf of Woman Severely Burned by Crock-Pot Explosion
Attorney Michael Burg, the founding shareholder of Denver-based law firm Burg Simpson, recently filed a lawsuit on behalf of Ms. Georgina Barela, citing an incident where her Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker exploded. The incident occurred in June 2019 when the device malfunctioned, and she was scalded and suffered from severe burns on her face, chest, and arms.
Since 2017, federal safety officials have reported approximately 100 incidents of consumers who suffered from severe burns after the lids of Sunbeam Crock-Pot Multi-Cookers became unattached. Consumers suffered burn injuries ranging from first-degree to third-degree when they were sprayed with the hot contents within the pressure cooker. Sunbeam was aware of the problem and responded to many of these complaints, and yet they did not warn consumers.
“The thing that I found to be outrageous is the company knew for almost two years that people were being burned by their product, but they continued to sell it,” said attorney Michael Burg.
Anyone who has one of these devices should stop using it immediately in pressure cooker mode. The products are marked with model number SCCPPC600-V1 and date codes K196JN through K365JN and L001JN through L273JN. They were distributed for sale at Walmart, Target, and other retail stores nationwide and online at Amazon and other online retailers from July 2017 through November 2020.
“Anyone using this device is basically cooking with a potential time bomb,” said Burg.
